    • Robustness of SD card vs eMMC in case of power outage

There are a few discussions regarding SD card corruption, e.g. SD Card fails after current cut. In that thread @Martin-Kudláček mentions an "upgrade" to eMMC as a potential solution - e.g. using Patron instead of Neuron devices. In principle this makes sense, but I'd like to get clear on just how much of a difference this makes.

The eMMC modules in Patron devices are based on MLC technology, which would in theory be less robust than a high-quality SD card based on SLC or pSLC technology (link). But maybe the fact that it's a soldered-on eMMC module makes things better? Maybe the eMMC controller is better/smarter?

I've looked around the internet but did not find great comparisons of SD cards vs eMMC in this context. The general narrative is that eMMC is quite similar to having a "soldered-on" SD card. This often leads to better read/write performance, but it's not clear whether there's improved robustness in case of power outage. Any info from the community would be welcome!

EDIT: Unfortunately looks like I posted this in the "Mervis" category. Is there a way to move it? Or do I need to delete and re-create it elsewhere?

    • How to use Watchdog?

      Hi there,
I'm interested in using the Master Watchdog (MWD) functionality. I haven't been able to find clear documentation on this. I know it's possible to configure this via the EVOK API endpoints, or via ModbusTCP, but it's not clear what the configuration needs to be.

For example in Modbus on the S103, if I set the "MWD enable" bit of register 6, and set the timeout in register 1008, I assume that the watchdog will "work". I.e. it would wait for a signal (somewhere?) and if it doesn't get that signal within the timeout, it would power-cycle the board.

But how do I tell it that everything is fine and it shouldn't reboot? I.e. where should the above-mentioned signal be communicated? Is that by periodically writing to coil 1000, which is described as "MWD reset indication"? If so, should I keep writing "1"s to that coil, or alternate 0s and 1s, etc?

      Thanks!
