Upgrading to Bullseye?
-
Hi all,
my Neuron M103 is running
root@neuron:~# cat /etc/issue Raspbian GNU/Linux 10 \n \l root@neuron:~# uname -a Linux neuron 5.10.60-v7+ #1449 SMP Wed Aug 25 15:00:01 BST 2021 armv7l GNU/Linux
As this is oldstable I am thinking of upgrading to stable/ Bullseye (based on Debian11).
I am unsure about the Unipi repository. I found the KB article but this did not help.
Currently my/etc/apt/sources.list.d/unipi.list
says:root@neuron:/etc/apt/sources.list.d# cat unipi.list deb https://repo.unipi.technology/debian buster main
Going to the repo main page it does not display any version information.
So my question here is:
Is it possible to upgrade to Bullseye? Or is the UniPi repository not yet at Bullseye? How can I retrieve this information?
Thanks!

Hi @knebb,
we are currently working on the Bullseye packages for the Unipi PLCs, but some important are still missing. The official release from our side will be after the official release of the RaspberryPI OS.Best regards,

and what about OS for Patron devices? When we can expect (stable & fully functional) upgrade of Node-Red OS or OpenSource OS? Thank you

Hi @lukas009,
it is the same issue. We will release Bullseye OS images once the support for all products is done. Looks like it could be next month.Best regards,

Hi,
sorry again for annoying. I am still conmsidering upgrading. Unfortunately my quastion about how I can see if it it ready for Bullseye has not been answered.
From my point of view with the links I originally provbided it looks like it has not been upgraded up to now. Am I right here?
Thanks& Greetings

Hi,
We would also be interested in a bullseye upgrade for Unipi Neuron Series as we are currently facing issues with the systemd version that comes with buster.
Any updates on this matter?
Best regards,
Romain

MartinMarch has been gone now since two months.
So I am getting the feeling there is no effort put into getting it lifted to current stable?
Would be a pitty....

Any news @Martin-Kudláček ? A planning for this upgrade ?

Hello everybody,
we have good news!
All packages from the Unipi repository already have their version for Bullseye (Debian 11).Unfortunately it took a little longer as it was not as easy as it first seemed, but now our packages can be used on all Unipi controllers with Debian 11.
We are now working on Bullseye OS images that we will release in the coming months. OS images will not be released immediately because we are working on a new unified approach to information about the controller and its peripherals.
For Unipi Neuron and Unipi 1.1 it is now possible to use the RaspberryPi OS image.
Best regards,
Antonin -
@AVsetula is it possible to get an early access to the debian 11 image ? Just got a set of 25 neurons and I'd rather use debian 11 even if it is still beta.

Hi all,
anyone having a hint how to upgrade now to Debian 11? I do not want to risk my installation here....
For Debian/ Raspbian I will have to replace "buster" with "bullseye", right?
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/raspi.list
:deb http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/ buster main ui
Additionally I need to do the same here, correct?
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/unipi.list
:deb https://repo.unipi.technology/debian buster main
Once edited, run
apt update; apt full-upgrade; apt autoremove
based on this tutorial. Is this the way to go?
Greetings

I did as shown above. Ended in an Neuron M103 not booting :(
Unfortunately I do not have a possibility to attach a screen to M103 (or can I use the HDMI of the inner Raspi?)
I ended up in restoring the previous image.
So I can not even tell what the issue was- I guess some kernel/ grub based issues.
At current stage I would recommend against the above upgrade procedure.

@knebb, I have been successful with my Axon device couple months ago.
Here is my /etc/apt/sources.list.d/unipi.list:
deb https://repo.unipi.technology/debian bullseye main
These are the steps I followed:
sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade sudo apt full-upgrade
I didn't remove any packages after
full-upgrade
and simply rebooted with a backup in place. After restart, I removed all obsolete packages but those which hadunipi
oraxon
in name (see later).Currently, I'm still using the kernel from Buster because the kernel packages in Bullseye appear to be broken. If I understand correctly, we should be able to use
unipi-kernel-modules-dkms
with the normal Debian kernel. Unfortunately, it currently has broken dependencies, namely the unavailableunipi-kernel-headers
andunipi-os-configurator-data
.Here is the list of obsolete Buster packages I have left on hold:
- unipi-kernel-modules
- unipi-common
- axon-kernel-headers
- axon-kernel-image
Since I don't currently need a new kernel, I'm not in a rush to resolve this. However, it would be great to receive an official update.

Hello @knebb
Any news about the upgrade? An ETA maybe ?

@gabrielsoudry Hello Gabriel,
We plan to release the new Bookworm-compatible EVOK, along with new OS images, by the end of February. However, if we encounter bugs during testing, this may extend until the end of March.
